We are delighted to announce that Gordon Lindhurst has been selected as our candidate for Edinburgh Pentlands in the Scottish Parliament elections in 2021. 1
Want to help Gordon win in Edinburgh Pentlands?
Gordon passionately supports a strong Scotland at the heart of our United Kingdom. He has worked tirelessly for Edinburgh and the Lothians for many years, and was elected an MSP for Lothian in 2016. He is a graduate of Edinburgh University.
Prior to his election, Gordon practiced as an Edinburgh based advocate throughout Scotland, spending many years at the sharp end in the justice system, experiencing first-hand the failure of the SNP to properly resource, support and organize in the public sector. He is determined to see Edinburgh and Scotland get the proper support and good governance it needs.
Outwith professional life, Gordon has supported a wide range of charities both locally and internationally, volunteering with the Bethany Care Van in Edinburgh and as a team leader for a local children’s charity in Romania.
Gordon has been politically actively involved for many years, and was chairman of the Edinburgh Association around the time of the successful Better Together campaign at the independence referendum. Prior to this he was Deputy Chairman of the Edinburgh West Association and first stood for election in 1999.
2021 will be the second time Gordon contests Edinburgh Pentlands, having increased the Scottish Conservative vote share there in 2016.
Gordon believes in setting out a clear positive conservative vision for Scotland and Edinburgh’s future.
We need the Scottish Parliament to focus on the things that matter to everyone: our children’s education; jobs for our workers; integrity in our public services and a strong national health system.
All of these have suffered under the SNP, as we have seen constantly since 2007. The 2021 election provides the opportunity for Scotland to give its verdict on the now lengthy list of SNP failures in all of these areas.
As an MSP for Lothian, Gordon has worked effectively in the Scottish Parliament and as Convener of the Economy Committee to scrutinize and publicly question the SNP Scottish Government’s approach on a wide range of issues.
He has led for the Scottish Conservatives on a wide range of issues and spearheaded a number of successful campaigns. Notably, he worked with Save Our Schools and local councillors to prevent Currie Community High School and WHEC from imminent closure. In addition, he campaigned with local veterans for signage to be allowed for the Korean War Memorial on the M8 and M9, successfully gaining an exception to national regulations in that instance.
In the Scottish Parliament, Gordon has most recently questioned ministers on the so-called Spaces for People programme, the plight of numerous local businesses and their need for proper support during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the lack of openness and transparency on business intervention. On a national level, he campaigned against the Scottish Government’s unfair rate increases for local authority-run leisure facilities.
If re-elected Gordon will fight for a strong Scotland in an undivided United Kingdom with the family at its heart.
